One would hope that the result is "computed exactly" then "rounded nearest with ties(half) to even" since this has the best error propagation characteristics. "computed exactly" means that the calculation should be carried out with at least two guard digits in each argument, and thus at least four guard digits in the exact result, before rounding is applied.
