Maybe I'm missing something, but for functions like factorial couldn't you just make an extension? It's simple to load it on each connection, or even just compile it in to sqlite if you don't want to load extensions. It would even have the benefit of better performance. Also, as pointed out by someone else, creativity with views and triggers can yield some good results.
