Endianness help
BTW the romans until about the 4th century BC would alternate writing direction each time they changed lines, just like plowing a field and for similar reasons. While reading a scroll, one would transfer it from the RH spindle to the LH spindle and be unwilling to "rewind" just to read the next line, so writing direction was simply reversed.

It took them a while to duplicate dividing the scroll into pages like the Hebrew scholars (who invented fixed length lines and checksums in order to faithfully reproduce the Torah; each line had the same number of letters and the numerical values of the letters were added to produce a checksum) had been doing for centuries.
