I stand corrected, unlike the other aggregates, min() and max() handling *is* fully deterministic in aggregate and is not just a temporary quirk as I thought, and if documented it should be supported as-is till 2050 - Thanks Keith for posting this. There you have it Andy, you can disregard my previous warning completely - it is indeed safe to use the query as in the original post!
